Built by educators.
Trusted by thousands of schools.
Where it started
ClassCover was founded in 2011 by Ben Grozier, a former teacher who saw firsthand how broken the substitute booking process was for schools and educators.
The idea started when a school administrator shared his Sunday routine: calling down a list of 20 or more substitute teachers just to find cover for Monday. It was slow, stressful, and unfair to both schools and the teachers waiting for work.
Schools needed a better way to connect with substitute teachers and SNAs. One that was faster, easier, and more transparent than juggling spreadsheets and phone calls. From the start, ClassCover was designed to create a simpler and fairer system for schools and educators alike.
20+ calls to find a sub for Monday. Not a great way to spend a Sunday.
— The moment that sparked ClassCoverWhat ClassCover does
ClassCover is a substitute teacher and SNA booking platform. Schools use it to post absences, find available educators, and get cover confirmed in minutes. Substitute teachers and SNAs use it to manage their availability, connect with schools, and get booked directly through the app.
There are no agencies, no placement fees, and no middlemen. Schools build their own network of trusted educators, and substitute teachers and SNAs get access to more work opportunities with full visibility and control over their schedule.
ClassCover today
Trusted at every level of education
ClassCover is used by individual schools, Catholic school systems, and state education departments. In Australia, ClassCover holds long-term contracts with some of the largest education systems in the country:
- New South Wales Department of Education — ClassCover has been the contracted substitute teacher booking platform for all NSW public schools since 2018.
- Queensland Department of Education — Selected in 2025 under a long-term agreement to modernise substitute workforce management across all Queensland state schools.
- South Australia Department for Education — Engaged in 2026 as the statewide platform for substitute teacher bookings in all public schools and preschools.
These partnerships reflect a commitment to reducing the time and stress involved in organising substitute cover, while giving educators better access to work opportunities across schools.
Why Ireland
Irish schools face the same challenge ClassCover was built to solve: finding substitute teachers and SNAs is slow, manual, and stressful. Schools are stuck with phone calls, WhatsApp groups, and spreadsheets. Substitute teachers and SNAs are stuck waiting to hear back.
ClassCover is launching in Ireland to bring the same platform that serves thousands of Australian schools to a market that needs it just as much. We are rolling out county by county, building a strong local network of schools and educators in each area before expanding.
As part of the Ireland launch, we are building a local team to support Irish schools and educators directly.
